This week's problem with Twitter
The site's latest change may come with a side of harassment and privacy risks
If you’ve been living your best life this week, you may not have heard about the latest dumb change about to be implemented on Twitter. (I’m never gonna call it X.)
Here’s the tweet, from the engineering team:
What does this mean for findommes?
Right now, when you block someone on Twitter, they can no longer see anything you post. Under the new system, the clowns you block for disrespect, lack of payment, and general asshattery will still be able to view your content, but not comment on it. We will soon have no way to prevent unwanted viewers from seeing content we don’t want them to see.
The exodus from Twitter to other platforms has been swift. Bluesky’s server has been hit with half a million new users this week, causing them to go down for a bit. Reddit has been super busy since the announcement. New options, like Btch.pro have been getting word of mouth. And the posts letting folks know that “I’m leaving Twitter” have been all over my feed this weekend.
Not good.
If you use Twitter as a large part of your findomme work, it may be time to diversify. I keep a running list of social sites on the Sites and apps page, if you’d like to try something new, or just add a few placeholder accounts on some sites, just in case. I do this a lot, just to test out sites that are new to me, to see if they’re worth recommending.
I’m a go with the flow kinda findomme, so where my dommes go, I go, too. Losing Twitter might be hard in the short term, but maybe I’ll finally get down to business on using my LF for something more than posting the occasional free photo.
But underneath that, I’m so mad that a site that used to be so much fun to use is being rendered useless by poor decisions. I wonder how many more of them users can endure before they decide it isn’t worth it.
